Does the Human Development Index relate with acute lymphoblastic leukemia incidence?

Background The association between childhood cancer and socioeconomic status has been widely studied. However, none of the results are conclusive. This study aimed to analyze Human Development Index (HDI) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) incidence in children under Popular Medical Insurance Care. Methods We conducted an observational, descriptive, population-based covering 55% Mexican population (58 million). Results most impoverished states were located south east region Mexico, while north was more homogeneous, with HDIs varying 0.73 0.79. Our findings emphasize that metropolitan area Mexico City State Nuevo Leon have highest levels HDI. Regions graded from I IV according their ascending order. varied 0.667 0.830/100,000 children/year, a national average 0.746. for regions I, II, III, 6.12, 6.53, 4.96, 9.95. An analysis ALL showed significant differences comparison other based on HDI values (p = 0.0001). Conclusions Further in-depth studies, including economic aspects different geographic ethnographic characteristics, would give comprehensive panorama.
